We went over the fiscal cliff and were pulled back a day later, but that didn't stop the domino effect on tax season. The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 was passed on Jan 1, 2013. This last minute legislation affected not only the processing of 2012 tax returns but also the timeliness of receiving the 1099s and other forms needed to prepare returns.
If you have not yet filed your 2011 or earlier return, it's time to get that worry off your back! Just contact my office and we will be happy to help you prepare your return(s).

Unemployment News:
Important! The last day to file eligible vouchers for federal benefits was Saturday, January 5, 2013. For more information click here (IDWD released 01-01-13)
As of Sunday, September 2, 2012, federally extended unemployment insurance benefits will be reduced by 10 weeks. (IDWD released 8-24-12)
May 2012: Indiana has reached a milestone: our three-month average unemployment rate has fallen below 8.5 %. While this is good news for our overall economic health, it may be unwelcome news for someone who has been unemployed long term. Because of our lower unemployment rates, Indiana no longer qualifies for Federal Tier 4 unemployment benefits. Beginning May 13, 2012, no new claims will be processed for Tier 4 benefits. (Individuals already receiving Tier 4 benefits will be able to receive their remaining benefits). In general, an unemployed individual would reach Tier 4 level after 73 weeks of unemployment benefits. Tier 4 would have paid up to an additional 6 weeks of benefits.
Indiana Business News:
According to a survey by thumbtack.com*, the state of Indiana ranks #14 in the country for overall small business friendliness. Indiana is #3 in the nation for ranking of friendliness of employment, labor, and hiring regulations. This is good news for both business owners and employees!
